CMDR Seminar/Poster Presentation Series: Session 4
June 13, 2002

This CMDR session focused on five seminar talks given by graduate students, postdocs and research associates, followed by a poster session. Speakers included Earnest Leung, Chow Lab, Shawn Lewenza, Hancock Lab, David Oliver, Fernandez Lab, Annick Gauthier, Finlay Lab, and Martin Richer, Jean Lab.


Stanier Symposium on Vaccines. A symposia hosted by Brett Finlay, and supported with a significant donation from CMDR

Entitled "Vaccine preparations and vaccination through understanding pathogenesis", the keynote speaker was Dr Gordon Dougan (University College London), with Drs. Bill Kay (U. Victoria), Andy Potter (VIDO, U Saskatchewan), Sam Miller (U. Washington), Lorne Babiuk (VIDO, U Saskatchewan), Bob Brunham (UBC CDC), Tania Watts (University of Toronto) and Michel Tremblay (McGill University), as speakers.


2003

CMDR members were notified that CMDR’s name had been changed to the Centre for Microbial Diseases and Immunity Research, and now incorporates immunology.

CMDR Seminar/Poster Presentation: Session 5
February 7, 2003

This CMDR session focused on four seminar talks related to the topic of Immunity and posters given by UBC faculty, graduate students, postdocs and research associates. The speakers were Keith Humphries, BC Cancer Agency, Alice Mui, Jack Bell Research Centre, Mike Gold, Dept of Microbiology and Immunology, and Jan Dutz, Division of Dermatology.

Three international speakers presented talks: Dr. Lisa Friedman, Dept of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Harvard Medical School, “Genes involved in matrix formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms,” Dr. Soeren Molin, Molecular Microbial Ecology Group, BioCentrum-DTU Denmark, “Key elements in the development of structured P. aeruingosa biofilms,” and Dr. Jean-Marc Ghigo, Dept of Fundamental and Medical Microbiology, Institut Pasteur, “Molecular analysis of E. coli biofilm formation."
